Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Coming off their 77th sectional championship, Woodrow Wilson boys basketball looked to win a Class AAA regional Tuesday night against George Washington.
It was the Patriots who would take the lead, extend it to double digits for much of the night, and return to states with an 82-67 win at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
After trailing 24-15 after one, the Flying Eagles had several turnovers in the second quarter that the Patriots were able to turn into points, leading 45-22 at intermission.
Beckley would rally to close the gap to single digits several times in the second half, but George Washington kept the lead making 31 of 41 free throws, converting 17 straight at one point.
Bryce Radford led Woodrow Wilson (18-7) with 17 points, all of them coming in the fourth quarter.
Also in Class AAA, Greenbrier East lost for a second straight year at Capital, with the Spartans finishing the season at 17-8. Seth Brown was the visitors’ leading scorer with 23 points.
