Charleston, WV (WOAY) – Fayetteville boys basketball was part of the opening game of state tournament week, with the Pirates facing Madonna Wednesday morning at the Charleston Civic Center.
The Pirates began the game on a 7-2 run, but the Blue Dons made plays to give Fayetteville a 7-6 lead after the first quarter. Madonna would continue their momentum in the first half to go into halftime up 23-13. The Blue Dons would go on to win 44-32, and will face Ravenswood Friday morning in the Class A semifinals.
Joey Ewusiak led all scorers with 21 points, while Tavon Jeter recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Will Fenton led a balanced Fayetteville scoring attack with six points and 11 rebounds.
The Pirates finish the season 24-1. It marks the end of a period where those who played both football and boys basketball went a combined 36-2.
