ROANOKE, Va. – As the back to school season begins, regional furniture store Grand Home Furnishings is launching a “Stock the Schools” supply drive to ensure children have the supplies needed for the upcoming year. All Grand Home Furnishings stores will be accepting donations through August 31.
Grand is inviting the community to help “stuff the sofa”, Grand’s equivalent of a “stuff the bus”, by donating extra school supplies to any of their 19 store locations. Basic supplies are needed including pencils, pens, glue sticks and paper. Anyone who donates will receive a coupon for 10% off one item that day. The month-long event will also include a special 20% off one item discount to honor all school employees including teachers, bus drivers, lunch and maintenance employees and faculty.
Grand is partnering with local boards of education and non-profit organizations including The United Way, Salvation Army and Bright Futures to identify desirable supplies and distribute to the schools with the greatest need.
Nancy Mango, Bright Futures Coordinator explains, “School supplies are expensive and for many families we work with – this expense can be the difference between being able to pay their rent or not.”
According to Ray Graham, Vice President of Grand Home Furnishings, “The company has always been committed to serving the community. Back to school can be a tough time for parents and for teachers who often pay out of pocket for classroom supplies. We’re happy to help because that’s what good neighbors do.”
For Grand employees in West Virginia, back to school is a time for action and reflection. “Last year, many of our neighbors in West Virginia lost so much in the flood and schools are still trying to recover. As part of the community, we want to help families and schools get back on their feet,” said Vice President David Stanberry.
