Remains Found in Fayette County Identified

FAYETTEVILLE– Remains found in Fayette County last year have been positively identified.

On March 10 of last year skeletal remains were found near the New River Gorge Bridge. The West Virginia State Police received DNA confirmation that those remains belong to Robert Leroy Kovack. Kovack was a West Virginia native and Virginia Tech graduate student who went missing on September 18, 1998.

An examination of the partial skeleton revealed his injuries suggest Kovack was struck by a vehicle before falling off the bridge.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to call the Oak Hill Detachment of the State Police at 304-469-2915.
