UPDATED: Schools Dismissing Early For Solar Eclipse

West Virginia– A few school systems around the area have announced they will be dismissing school early on Monday, August 21, 2017 because of the Solar Eclipse.

The biggest reason is because some students will be on buses at the time of the eclipse and they could be at danger for staring at the sun without proper glasses. Another reason for the dismissal is to give students a chance to see something they have never seen and won’t see for a long time. It truly is a rare event.

Right now this is the list of schools that are dismissing early as of Thursday morning. We will update this list of any other schools systems announce early dismissals.

Nicholas County Schools will be dismissing 3.5 hours early.

Tazewell County Schools will be dismissing all students at 12:30pm.

Summers County Schools will be dismissing all students at 11:00am.

Wyoming County Schools will be dismissing as follows: high schools will dismiss at 10:00 and elementary and middle schools will dismiss at 11:00
