WV Oil and Gas Industry Holds Jobs Rally

CHARLESTON– Speakers at a jobs rally in Charleston have urged the passage of legislation to benefit the state’s oil and natural gas industry.

Hundreds of industry workers attended the rally Tuesday on the state Capitol steps.

Some touted bills under consideration that would allow drilling over the objections of minority mineral owners, and provide an exemption to chemical storage tank regulations.

Lawmakers are weighing whether to stop requiring state regulation of thousands of storage tanks that can hold up to 210 barrels of brine water and crude oil produced in drilling for oil and natural gas.

Brett Loflin of Northeast Natural Energy in Charleston says the tank regulations have hurt some small operators.

Also speaking to the crowd were Gov. Jim Justice, Senate President Mitch Carmichael and House Speaker Tim Armstead.
